New Here

Hello everybody, New here. I've been lurking for a month or two posted a couple times figure i should introduce myself.

I'm new to this whole field currently going to school finish in a month plan on starting to work in this field the beginning of next year. My neighbor teaches HVAC at a college not far from me and always has employers coming to him looking for young guys getting into the field so he's going to help me out there.

I am so glad i chose to go this route and view this as a career i will do for the rest of my life. I'm 26 years old now and live about 10 miles from Detroit, Michigan. Anybody in the area knows there's HVAC companies EVERYWHERE around here. The place my neighbor wants me to go is a plumbing and HVAC place so should be interesting.

I'm currently buying tools as i can as almost all of my tools got stolen and i never replaced them as my father has all the tools i ever needed at the time.

I really enjoy this forum and everything about this trade.

Well i don't know what else to post but look forward to getting to know all of you and working in this field!

knocking coming from pipes in the wall

Whenever the weather gets a little cold, people in my 2-level 12 unit apartment building start to turn on the heat. This causes a knocking sound in the pipes that keeps us up all night. The colder it gets, the louder and more frequent it gets. The building owner doesn't want to do anything about it. I'm trying to troubleshoot for him and the manager to come up with some ideas they could try to improve the problem, considering they don't want to spend a bunch of money. The heater unit in our apartment is Slant Fin brand. I assume the boiler is the same brand but I'm not sure.

IPI Ignition System

This is another fireplace I am having issues with its a Heat N Glo using an older IPI Ignition system, When I tried to turn the fireplace on all I get is a click and nothing else.

1. I checked to ensure proper millivolts was going to gas valve
2. I put in new batteries for the ignition system
3. I hard reset the ignition system with a 5 minute wait
4. Still the same issue, any info online for techs on repairing IPI ignition systems ? When I tried to call Heat N Glo directly they do not have tech support, they just want to transfer you to the nearest certified tech in the field.

Thanks for any advice

Dryer hookup - oval to round

I wanted to provide an answer to the original thread, but it is closed now. But as I see many people still struggling, I wanted to give back by providing the info that let me solve the oval to round issue for dryer's hookup.

As you can see in the original thread http://www.doityourself.com/forum/du...-hookup.html#b

there is not a good solution. But I was able to find on Amazon 90 degree elbow, that will provide the conversion from the oval to 4" round dryer vent:
It costs $18 and is made by Speedi - part EX-ROA 04, Round to
